Meet the The SkyCourier Aircraft

The SkyCourier is a twin-turboprop, high-wing aircraft, available with a 19-passenger accommodation, or in a cargo variant sized for three LD3s. The non-pressurized design is built from aluminum and is equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engines and fixed landing gear.

The FAA Certified SkyCourier

The newest addition to the Cessna brand of aircraft, the SkyCourier offers lower costs and unmatched lift capacity. A flexible payload means up to 19 passengers and a 5,000 pound payload (6,000 pound w/ freighter config) that is big enough for your cargo and passengers.

With the Cessna SkyCourier utility turboprop, the sky is literally the limit!

Belgium Becomes First Military Operator of the Cessna SkyCourier

Belgium Special Forces Cessna SkyCourier

The Belgian Ministry of Defence has announced the purchase of five twin-engine Cessna SkyCourier turboprops, making Belgium the first military operator in the world to adopt the platform. The aircraft will be operated by the Belgian Special Operations Forces.

The Belgian military will utilize the SkyCourier for a wide range of tactical support missions, including troop transport, cargo logistics, casualty evacuation (casevac), and rapid crisis response. The aircraft is highly valued for its massive cabin volume, robust landing gear, and excellent short-field capabilities.

Deliveries are scheduled to run through 2027. Ahead of active service, the aircraft will undergo specialized military and communications systems integration performed by Sabena Engineering, demonstrating the SkyCourier's flexibility for defense applications.

The SkyCourier's twin Pratt & Whitney PT6A-65SC engines deliver a combined 2,680 shaft horsepower, giving the aircraft exceptional performance margins for operations from short and unprepared runways — a critical requirement for special operations forces deploying to austere forward operating locations. With a maximum payload of 6,000 pounds and a cavernous cargo bay that can accommodate standardized NATO pallets, the SkyCourier fills a tactical niche between light utility helicopters and larger fixed-wing transports like the C-130 Hercules.

Belgium's selection of the SkyCourier also signals a potential shift in NATO procurement strategy. Several allied nations have expressed interest in adopting similar light tactical transport platforms for rapid-deployment scenarios, particularly in Africa and Eastern Europe where infrastructure may be limited.

Cessna SkyCourier Gets New In-Flight Operable Door for Skydiving and Special Missions

Cessna SkyCourier in flight with special door open

Textron Aviation has officially introduced a new in-flight openable door option for the twin-engine Cessna SkyCourier, dramatically expanding its mission capabilities for special operations and commercial use.

The new door system can be safely opened while in flight at standard operational speeds, making it a game-changer for commercial skydiving operators, military paratrooper units, smokejumpers, and aerial cargo drop missions. The design leverages the SkyCourier's spacious cabin and high payload capacity.

The in-flight openable door will be offered as a factory-installed option for new production aircraft starting in 2028, further positioning the SkyCourier as the premier modern utility turboprop in its class.

The engineering required extensive aerodynamic analysis and structural reinforcement to ensure safe operation at speeds up to 160 knots. Developed in collaboration with Aeromot Aeronaves e Motores S.A. in Brazil, the door mechanism features a hydraulically assisted hinge system with redundant locking mechanisms. The system has undergone over 500 test cycles during ground and flight validation, exceeding FAA certification requirements by a significant margin.

For the skydiving industry, the SkyCourier with an in-flight door represents a quantum leap over existing jump platforms. The aircraft's ability to carry up to 24 fully equipped skydivers — nearly double the capacity of a standard Cessna Caravan — combined with its twin-engine safety and rapid climb rate, positions it to become the preferred jump ship for high-volume drop zones worldwide.

SkyCourier Makes Its Show Debut at FIDAE 2026 in Santiago, Chile

Cessna SkyCourier on static display at FIDAE 2026

The Cessna SkyCourier has made its official South American exhibition debut at the FIDAE 2026 international aerospace show in Santiago, Chile, drawing significant attention from regional operators and defense agencies.

Showcased on the static display in its cargo configuration, the SkyCourier was exhibited alongside a special missions Beechcraft King Air 360CER. Textron Aviation highlighted the aircraft's twin-engine reliability, simple maintenance, and high payload capability as perfect fits for Latin America's challenging geographic terrain.

The show debut represents a key step in Textron's regional expansion strategy, as commercial freight carriers, regional airlines, and military forces in South America seek modern, cost-effective replacements for aging utility aircraft fleets.

FIDAE attracted delegations from over 40 countries. The SkyCourier's presence generated intense interest from Chilean Air Force officials, Peruvian cargo operators, and Brazilian regional airlines. Textron Aviation's regional sales team conducted over 30 formal meetings with prospective customers during the five-day show, emphasizing the SkyCourier's remarkably low maintenance footprint and 600-flight-hour maintenance intervals.

For South American cargo operators, the SkyCourier's 6,000-pound payload capacity and 87.5-inch-wide cargo door opening are compelling features, allowing it to swallow three standard LD3 containers or a full load of oversized freight.
